Meet Me At Mikes new book

Today I received an express post bag with 2 copies of the fab new book 'Meet Me At Mikes'

I'm really excited as I have a project in this book and was invited by the lovely Pip to submit some time ago. It's wonderful to see the final product published!!!

So if you are looking to make your own simple (very simple - it's not too hard) clutch purse as well as 25 other lovely little craft projects, get your copy now. Just in time for the winter months...

I especially like the pink lamingtons recipe at the back. I will have to have a go at those soon.

More lovely clutches up on my site too! This week I am aiming to get up another 2 handbags, a large tote and a ballerina bag... just a bit slow with Theo hanging off me constantly (who knew babies were so time consuming?).

Simpler times.

I spent last weekend at Newcastle seeing my sister before she has her 2nd child in a couple of weeks. It was lots of fun, though challenging with a 10 week old baby and her 2 year old who is 'getting ready' for a new sister or brother. Eli is trying out his 'big boy bed' which is going well but as with any youngster, its two steps forward one step back. He is so cute!

Anyway, as we were driving home Steven mentioned trying to find his old holiday house at McMasters Beach where they used to go as kids. It was such a lovely day and I was tired but thought it would be fun. So we drove off along the coast looking for it. And WOW, don't we wish they still had it. It is pretty much sitting right on the beach with full sea views!

I fed Theo on a picnic blanket under the trees then we went and got hamburgers from the Surf Club Kiosk and sat under the pine trees that line the sand on the southern side. A lovely warm breeze smelled of the sea, Theo got to look at everything and eventually fell into a deep sleep.

We talked about the sorts of holidays we liked best and both agreed, an old beach house (fibro of course), a simple picnic and road trips are really the way to go. And will be the only way we go for a while with babies now - no international jetsetting here!

I remember all those things: sunburn, listening to the roar of the surf as you go to sleep, marshmallows being cooked on sticks on the fire, peeling oranges in the sand and eating sandy segments of it, watching the Milky Way at night, singalongs with the guitar, bushwalking, swimming til your fingers were pruney but never getting out, bindy eyes in your feet.

So now I want to hunt down lovely fibro beach houses up and down the coast as potential holiday destinations. Of course, we usually take Nelly (the dog) as well so it has to be pet friendly. Above is 'Lifes A Beach' down the South Coast where we stayed late last year (and is highly recommended by me if you love all things retro).

Any good suggestions of other holiday ideas?

Funky lamps

I subscribe to mecho's newsletter and had to share this! These eco-friendly solar cell table lamps are the BOMB! No electricity - and the first solar-powered lamp from IKEA - in 5 funky colours. I want them all!

The lamp has a rechargeable solar cell panel which makes electrical energy from sunlight. Cool huh? Fully charged it creates enough LED light source to run for 3-4 hours. LED consumes 70% less energy. It also lasts 4 times longer than incandescent bulbs in similar lighting.

Oh - and there is no ugly cords here! So its portable indoors and out! Perfect for Australian conditions.

Meeting other mums...

Today I had a lovely time meeting other Mums in Sydney with babies born in January this year. We all met up at Bicentennial Park at Homebush Bay and all brought some morning tea - and I have to mention the brownies and banana bread (both of which I will be getting the recipes soon!).

Theo - always clutching her fists to her chest. She's not a particularly relaxed lil gal! I loved seeing all the cuties, and of course, the other little hairy ones!!!

All the babies (well, minus the two twin boys who had to leave early)! Aren't they cute?

Bags

Gosh, its been a week since my last post! How time gets away...

More new bags uploaded to my site - with 2 more coming - just as soon as I can sew buttonholes and buttons. Once upon a time this was so quick and easy to do, but with baby Theo keeping me busy, it tends to sit and sit and sit there!

Theo and I have colds which is not much fun at all. Having to care for a sick one all night means no rest for me. She is starting to cry now so off I go... (sigh!).

Tired but inspired.

Theo wears a dress I made from vintage fabrics.

This week has been crazy. So far Theo and I have run around to the paedetrician, physiotherapist and vaccinations yesterday. I am so tired but its all gotta be done. It was lovely to have Steven work from home yesterday to help me out a bit (so I got a nap!) and today Mum is coming up to the mountains to help out.

I've managed to get a couple more clutches up on my site - and introduced the new 10tote custom design. Check 'em out!

Wowee!

This is supposed to be my quiet time / maternity leave of sorts... Two of my bags are featured in the current edition of Frankie magazine (March/April 2009) and yesterday, one of my x-large totes was featured in the Telegraph's Style section on eco friendly fashion.

I took this cute photo of Theo yesterday. She was all smiles but can't always guarantee that at night!!

Yummy fabrics

This vintage tea towel says "Made in Poland" but that's all I know of it. The colours are divine and I love love love the print! What to do with it? It's almost too pretty to make into a clutch purse!

I love this vintage tablecloth! Its a rich grey with stark red roses and a bit of black printed. I can't decide what sort of bag to make from it - it's just too pretty and will look great!
